Hirsch's Log
Got a phone call from Aaron’s assistant for the Festival (Paul Joiner) – it
turns out that the site we were scheduled to perform at on Saturday is too
small – the stage area is something like 10'x16' – we would be hard pressed
to put the whole troupe on stage (and there are a couple of places where
it just isn’t going to work), not to mention our set, and we rely heavily in the set.
So, I sent an email out to the troupe to see if they’d
be willing to do an afternoon performance at a different venue (with a larger
stage than our guaranteed performances Monday-Thursday evenings). We’ll see
what folk think.
It’s a bit unnerving that in just a few days we’ll
be on a plane and heading to Austin ... and our first performance will be
in a week. However, as noted in the first entry for this, I honestly
believe we’ll be ready.
(Later in the week) The option we had
was to do a second performance on Thursday, in the afternoon. However, it
was felt that with the heat and humidity, that moving the sets from one
venue to another and performing twice would really wipe people out. So,
we opted out of that. This followed with a variety of messages trying to see
if we could still have a fifth show, but no venue was going to work right
for that. Oh well.
Juan's Log
Okay, so we don't leave for a few more days. In typical fashion I have been
considering all the last minute things I need to think about before going.
Sadly these things are related to work that I have to do instead of fun I'm
going to have. Setting up my laptop to handle all the e-mail and newsgroup
related garbage I'm going to have to do while I'm there.
So much for a vacation.
But we'll see. Everything promises to be fun,
but a real challenge and very exhausting for all of us I'm sure.
Finished our final tech rehearsal yesterday.
Everything seems to have gone very well. Everyone's nerves are frayed to
their limit and sometimes I wonder why we all put up with each other so well.
Except of course that deep down I know the answer. We all love what we are
doing and we all want the best for these projects.
Let's face it, The Golden Stag is "On The Map"
because of all the hard work we put in.
I have only ever done the road show thing twice
before (once in high school and once in J.C.), and both times we weren't traveling
this far. Both times were a real pain in the ass as well. Once we got to where
we were going, it was worth it, and I expect that it will be the same for us
in Austin.
Boy am I tired.
I thought about this travel log idea last night
when I realized I was going to want to download pictures from my digital camera
on to the laptop. It makes sense to keep a log of what those pictures are and
this idea sprang from that. I'm going to suggest it to everyone and hopefully
we'll all keep some kind of journal. It will be interesting for us to
compile all our logs and see what impressions and knowledge we manage to come
away with from this trip.
Could be a lot of fun.
