The Clay Building Step - At this point we used clay to create the 'character' on the life mask. The 'character' is defined by Commedia itself. These characters' features were well known in period. This was, in fact, the way the general public knew who the characters were.
We had some leeway in the way the characters were designed, but we tried to be as close to the expected features as possible.
The First Three Clay Masks - Here's what we ended up with for the first three
characters (from left to right: Capitano, Pantalone, Columbina).
The clay workup step was actually a great deal easier then most people expected, and they were able to accomplish it with varying degree's of success. We had drawings to work from, provided by Mistress Aldith, which were based on the information we got on the characters from various Commedia books and period drawings.
