The
Second Negative - The next step in the process is to create another negative
image of a the face, this time with the clay workup on it. Since
there was no person underneath, there was no need to use the alginate,
so we went straight to the plaster.
The clay workup was covered in a layer of Vaseline to facilitate the separation and then plaster was just poured over the workup. Once it dried, it was separated from the negative.
We did discover a few things about these steps, like being careful to seal the positive down to the surface so that plaster didn't get in underneath it, which caused a lot of problems during the mask separation stage, but I don't have pictures to document those stages yet. When I do, I will add them here.
Suffice it to say, we learned several tricks through trial and error
at this stage in order to stream line the process some.
