When the Golden Stag Players decided to really get into the Commedia dell'Arte style of theatre (2000), we decided to go all out, and that included creating masks. The two who spear-headed the research on this were Dame Rose de Le Mans and Master Juan Santiago. Between them, and the knowledge of leatherwork brought by Seamus Padraig o Baiogheallain Mì-nàrach, we ended up with some pretty nice masks being created for both The Twin Captains (the play we "went all out" for ...), and future productions as well. After visiting Austin, Texas for the Commedia dell'Austin Festival, and having seen the masks brought to America by Olly Crick and Gian Giacomo, Juan and others got really excited and decided to try to create as many of the different masks as possible ...
