The Jealous Old Man
Author: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Performed: Phoenix Theatre/Princess' Birthday, August 13, 1994 (AS XXIX)
(Also performed at a Peasant Revel, in Darkwood, date?? (1995))

This is the first appearance of "Golden Stag Light". This Spanish comedy was fun. What was more interesting is that for the first two performances it was done completely by the members of the Players living in Santa Cruz (and that area), including being directed by my apprentice Juan.

The play is shorter (without much editing) by a long shot than the last period pieces we tried.

Synopsis: A young wife, married to an old man, makes arrangements to have a lover brought to her by her neighbor. The old man is so jealous that he locks the doors when he leaves, the whole thing. This show, despite the 'trite' sounding plot, is really well written ...

Incidents: So far, none ...

Script:
The Jealous Old Man: Acrobat

Video Tape: Yes - of the second show. The video also has Charles Ravenstone's (Bonefinder) magic act which was fun.

DVD: Now available on the DVD titled "Four Short Plays", contact Hirsch for details (probably $5-10, just to cover the cost of the discs, the case, etc. and any postage would need to be tacked on).

Photos: There are a few photos of this play that can be found on the West Kingdom History website at: Princess' Birthday.

The Cast:

Production notes:
For these performances (and the one in the Golden Stag Players Whirled Tour), we combined the "Friend" and "Young Man" into the same character. It made for some good schtick with the friend being the one who cuckold's the old man, and when the friend and Hortigosa come in at the end of the play she's straightening his clothes out, which adds some fun bits as well ...
